My prints, paintings
and drawings all start out as an observation that I build on. My mind
goes into the other place where I try and capture my feelings and let
go of the reality to allow my imagination to flourish.
My work is not realism captured and translated with photography; it’s
eye, interpretation, imagination, hand, materials, paper or canvas. The
results are a mixture of what I’m seeing, feeling and imagining.
The plein air paintings are done on the logging site and the mining site,.
The wind, sun, noise, bears, wasps and curious people all affect the results.
My etchings , linocuts and woodcuts are done in my studio in Halfmoon
Bay. They start with a spontaneous drawing. The etching itself is done
on my deck and then printed on my press.
I was very fortunate to be educated at The Art Institute at Capilano College
in North Vancouver with International artist Wayne Eastcott and a group
of talented artists. From there I earned a Bachelors degree of Fine Arts
from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. My life is now
controlled by me. Improv singing is now a wonderful part of my life. Working
with the fantastic Viviane Houle has opened up another way to express
creative energy. Our group has sung my etchings.
My success’ are varied: work accepted in several juried International
Print Exhibitions, exhibiting work regionally, provincially and locally
but my greatest success was New York actor Jay Saunders purchasing my
etching to be used in his upcoming play Macbeth. He is hoping to take
it to Broadway My daughter Jude has just reminded me that a poet in Chile
has used one of my etchings he found on line to write about.
